Rumors are a buzz about who is going to replace Matt Lauer as host of "Spotlight Tonight." While the network has called on eight of their internal team members to cover the hosting gig for the next month or so, the network is rumored to only seriously be considering three of them.
1. Don Lemon - Lemon is the first at bat to fill the seat covering since Wednesday. His three night runs ends tonight (for now at least). Lemon has done a great job covering the Lauer story but allowing the show to go on. Lemon has been a long time substitute anchor for the network covering for most of the network's anchors at one point or another. Lemon seems posed and ready for a gig of his own.
2. Julie Chen - The "Mommy Mornings" co-host is next at bat for filling in with her turn coming early next week. Chen's strongsuit is viewed as interviewing but it's unknown how she will do with covering breaking news. The network feels some kind of commitment to hiring a woman to replace Lauer and Chen's only real competition is Katy Tur. Hiring Chen would leave an open seat at "Mommy Mornings."
3. Carson Daly - Daly, who isn't taking the hosting seat until after Christmas has been around at the network for a while. Daly's strengths are interviewing and lifestyle pieces, a staple at "Spotlight Tonight." Again though, it is unknown how Daly would do covering breaking news stories. Daly is one to keep an eye one.
