- An adaptation of the 'In Death' series written by Nora Roberts.
It features NYPSD (New York City Police and Security Department) Lieutenant Eve Dallas as she solves various murder cases, the first case involves her future husband Roarke. It is set in New York City, circa 2058.
Eve had lost her memory, she had forgotten her name, but it will be eventually revealed that the reason she cannot remember her name is because her parents never gave her one. For all intents and purposes, Eve did not exist in any records before she was eight years old.
Her memories return throughout the run of the show, through a series of nightmares, revealing a history of incestual rape and patricide with her father, Richard Troy. Her mother, Stella, was a prostitute and a drug addict and was occasionally beaten and raped by Troy herself, but hated her daughter. If Stella is alive, her whereabouts are unknown.
