Toronto - Before Toronto can even announce the pickup of their Idol like competition The Carpenters Hour at the upfronts later this afternoon, some news breaks out from nearby Detroit that their was a stabbing incident at the show's first audition session yesterday. This is the second incident at an UPN reality competition audition session as their was another incident earlier in the month in Los Angeles for The Next Great American Entertainer.
The incident on The Next Great American Entertainer was reported to be gang related as a contestant got stabbed by rival gang members who slipped backstage and attack the 16 year old in his dressing room. Proxio and The American Reporter will have more info on the incident in his magazine.
The incident on The Carpenter's Hour was reported to be between contestants on Monday morning. The future singing and dancing competition show had two contestants a male and a female who got into a heated argument and the girl to protect herself stabbed the boy who was twice her size. The male who was stabbed was the singer and the female was the backup dancer. Both were trying to put on a routine in front of the judges. After that happened a small riot happened outside the building which had random people and contestants fighting to get in the doors since the audition didn't start until 11am. Proxio and The American Reporter will have more details on the incident in his magazine.
Comments from The Carpenter's Hour judge Doc:
"Crazy shit happens in these competitions as it gets real competitive and serious. A lot of these contestants are young people from the streets. We know we were in trouble doing a show like this at the dangerous Cobo Hall which produced all types of fights back in its heyday in the stands during Pistons and other games. I just hope their both doing okay b/c we were all scared for them. The riot outside was crazy and it was just a crazy day in the 313." - judge Doc
Here's what Pat Devine who's a judge on Entertainer and owner of UPN:
"When we started the network we spent a ton of money on everything but we also went cheap in some areas like security thinking this stuff wouldn't go down but it did, twice or three if you count the riot in Detroit yesterday. It makes me fear for the Athletic Games in Dallas in August if people can't calm themselves down." - judge/owner Pat Devine
During tonight's 10pm presentation of The Next Great American Entertainer, the show will feature the incident as it was caught on camera at the Nokia Theater auditions in LA.
