6/19-6/21 box office edition
The American Reporter makes its debut here on TME today and were looking ahead towards this weekend's summer releases. A brand new movie studio debuts this weekend and its the brand new revived UPN studio World Pictures. The people over at BlueLick Media Group have created World Pictures and they have a killer lineup for 2009 and it all gets started with the first ever double feature weekend where they'll release two pictures at a time on the same weekend to compete. World Pictures will release the gritty crime drama My Brother's Keeper and the upcoming UPN series The Color Pink. The studio is no ordinary startup studio as their spending a ton of money on their releases and adding them to many theaters and starting very fast. They are aggressive over there but the quesiton is are they too aggressive for their own good.
Mark Wahlberg heats up the screen as he stars in both of the weekend's releases. Burrard Street Productions releases My Happy Ending which is the huge comedy blockbuster released this weekend featuring co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Mandy Moore and Susan Sarandon who clean up the trio of lovely comedic actresses. This family-friendly release is going to be a heavy money producer this weekend for last year's top studio Burrard Street Productions. The other Mark Wahlberg release My Brother's Keeper will be from debuting World Pictures and it will be a grittier and darker rated PG-13 flick. Mark Wahlberg most of his career has starred in these kinds of movies where action is prime. It should be interesting as both films are predicted to make over $30 million and could be fighting back and forth for first place.
The matchup between Burrard Street Productions and new World Pictures will be a great one to look at but its no ordinary rookie vs. veteran matchup.
The other WP feature is the upcoming TV series The Color Pink from United People's Flicks sub-studio and this flick is a fun summer flick for young girls but can be enjoyed by all. It could be a sleeper hit with long legs. Definitely summer fun as the studio has predicted $15 million for this weekend.
The last release is a small one Fifty-Two Cakes, its major competition this weekend might be The Color Pink b/c My Happy Ending is in its own league. Fifty-Two Cakes could shock the young WP studio and end up #3 as far as new releases go. Should be interesting.
