3 big oscar movies and 2 big box office draws for December, since there are so many limited releases I will mark on overall box office and opening weekend:
1) A Farewell to Arms An expensive war film that hopes to be a hit by opening very wide. It depends on quality a lot, but either way I don't think it will be huge and the opening weekend won't be that big either. Lowest box office levels would be Atonement but it should get numbers similiar too or a little higher than Cold Mountain.
2) Gone This should do well especially in the long run. The acting should get oscar attention. I think it could go as low as 50 or as high as 100+ but 80 seems like a reasonable level to me.
3) Dragon Fire: Destroyer's Land After the disappointment of the last one this one seems unsure. But the christmas opening (unlike the last one's mid-summer) assures that it should at least do better, it might pass the 200 million made by the first one.
4) Baby Proof Baby Proof definitely seems like it should hit, bigger than PS, I Love You too. It seems like it will appeal to the female crowds and it faced very little female competition in this month, unless you count A Farewell to Arms at the beginning of the month. It should open well and continue throughout the holiday season and January. It should range anywhere from 60-95 million total
5) Jersey Boys Although big screen musicals often flop (see Gypsy also released as an oscar contender in December), Jersey Boys looks like it will be more Chicago/Walk the Line then From Justin To Kelly/Gypsy. It doesn't hurt that James Franco already has oscar buzz for Promiscuous. Musicals are hard to predict but expect good numbers from this one considering good buzz and the love for the stage production.

New Years is also a good "weekened" usually, I think it will have 800-1000 theaters, so limited but not so limited
