I love it that those five movies are going head to head, I don't understand all the complaining going on. It makes the box office interesting.

The problem is that it would not be happening in the real movie industry. that's all.

I agree with Burrard that it makes it unrealistic. Real studios would never do this, and with the box office I am going to try to be realistic.

Studios will never do this in real life b/c they have money at stake and want to hot the #1 or #2 positions. Aggressive studios that aren't scared will do this. The movies are different enough with only 2 of them sharing the same audience for everybody to be satisfied with their numbers next weekend.

The goal is not "for everybody to be satisfied with their numbers" because with 5 new movies, it's pretty hard for all of them to be hits. Rarely do more than 2 movies open with more than 40 million dollars, and with 4 of them predicted by some to be making more than 50 million that is just ridiculously unrealistic.
And i'd say more than 2 of them share the same audience. The End Game, The Flash and Theme Park are all going after the same audience, and to some degree Kingdom Keepers (although that is aimed more at families). With so much competition movies will likely do way lower than they would normally do.

Just let the numbers speak for themselves when their released. If people want to see a movie they will go and see it. You guys are worried too much about how a movie is going to effect yours. If you have that much invested in your movie then its going to do well regardless of who's going against it. If there's one weekend you want to do this its the 4th of July weekend where the movie audience swells. I just thought of something last year's Christmas offerings were shared by almost 5 studios I believe and they all did well and that's in the winter when people stay in more than they go out. Don't worry trust me!

the two weeks of christmas are two of the biggest box office weeks of the year. Plus they aren't all "event movies"

None of the Christmas movies made over 40 million dollars, and I am not worried about my movies being impacted so don't make accusations when you have no clue what you are talking about. As for extra promotion, it may help some films, but when 2 of the films have only been announced at this date for less than 2 weeks, it really hurts them. It's not just about how many posts someone makes in the advertising forum. Anyone can make 20 posts in a day, but it's about the quality of the promotion and how it is spread out over time, as well as the long-term buzz for it.
And when weekends are crowded people aren't going to go out and see all 5, we are in an economic recession. And Christmas movies have all of January & February (uncrowded months) to gross money, after fourth of july there are two more months of crowded releases that make it harder to make money in the long term.

If more than one movie opens in a weekend that I want to see, I'll go see all of them in the same weekend, and sometimes even the same day. For instance, I will go see Bruno and probably I Love You, Beth Cooper when they both open, and I might see Bruno twice, if it's anywhere near as funny as Borat.
But I digress. There IS too much competition this weekend, and most of the films do have the same demographic. Pushing 40 should have a nice profit, but the other four will struggle to make ends meet, though I hope my film, Kingdom Keepers, with its PG rating, will do really well.

That's why I pushed for the PG rating for Theme Park so I could get a wider audience that weekend and I have released it in 3D so people would see it in that format.

I find it hard to believe that a movie about gangsters taking over a theme park would be PG. And if so I doubt action fans would really want to see it.

Crap, so two films are PG. Damnit, I thought my film was the only family film this weekend...

I find it hard to believe that a movie about gangsters taking over a theme park would be PG. And if so I doubt action fans would really want to see it. Most of the 70s movies like this before the PG-13 rating came out were PG and were trying to bring back a combination of PG with serious action played into it. EBN, did are you still looking for us to submit reviews for next weekend's releases? I can get it done before Wednesday.
